I am new here and overall in unraid, so I am actually in the trial period and since almost two days I am confronted with a GPU passthrough problem. My goal is to Game almost "nativ" via unraid system.
So the final status should be, I am starting the workstation and booting into unraid. Win10 Virtual Client starts automatically and I can play games, etc. So i bought an super from nvidia and now it works without any issues just enabled ACS and configured it in the vm settings.
But I the next problem is, that I cant figure out a way to get my audio working. I can select it as a second soundcard, but if I am configuring it like that and startup the VM, the system freezes as i mentioned before:. There is a bug with amd usb and audio where it won't pass through properly I've been using my arctis 7 headset in Windows as a workaround for now.

I do see the video card spinning up and the cores being active. I successfully passed through 1 gpu by following SpaceInvader One's youtube video on gpu passthrough editing the dumped rom from my gpu. When adding it to the VM i passed through the gpu and gpu audio, added onboard audio as second audio device, then added a startup script to unbind the gpu from unraid in user scripts plugin.

I ended up just having to install the Nvidia driver like that, and boom everything worked. If you have another device I'd recommend trying to do that to see what the VM sees when the GPU is getting passed through or to see if the VM even starts at all.
I've then removed the GPU completely only to see that there was no bootable media. Still no output to my monitor. Seeing as Windows seems to see the device fine now, I'd say that once you get past code 43 and install the Nvidia driver, you should be in the clear.Waqia karbala in urdu book shia pdf

Even if it doesn't install correctly, whatever error the installer gives might give you a bit more info. The driver installed without any problems whatsoever.

If you switched Firmware and are still using the same disk image with Windows already installed, it is not going to boot, and that is a completely separate issue unrelated to passthrough.OK, so I managed to extract the vbios rom, however, I still get the black sreen after powering on the VM.
Under hostdev in my xml i use the command like this I don't know about other VM configuration file formats, you'd have to look that up. A good way to verify the bios file is to try it while the GPU is still placed in the second slot. You could also try specifying a bad file to use as rom to see if the option is actually used it should not boot. For me using the Vbios file solved the black screen issue, but there may be other issues on you system.
My devices including the ti GPU are all passed through using the hostdev method. I tried qemu method but this did not work either.

So normally when the ti is in the second slot you can pass it through without problems, but when you add the rom file option to the configuration it breaks? I'd say it's a bad romfile then. You're sure you've read it from the card while the card is in the secondary slot and able to pass through?
If you read it while the card is not working for passthrough, you probably get the file that doesn't work in the first place. For my GTX this file was significantly smaller.
I have no experience with using romfiles with the hostdev method, maybe someone can step in here. The only way i could unbind the card and read the rom file was if the gpu was in the 1st slot and no other gpu was installed.
The GPU works fine in passthrough in the 2nd slot at the moment. Ah but then if the card was used to boot, you're probably reading the shadowed copy which may be the cause of all problems.

When I boot I see the unraid boot process, but once it finishes and a VM starts I have it set to auto-start one of them the video output switches to the VM, and never returns to the host system unless I reboot. I'm willing to bet an error occurs and you won't start the second VM.
You can do it as long as they dont run both at once. I have done something similar with my small GPU-farm which i sometimes have to alternate between running on windows and linux. Just configure it as if it was normal and be sure to only start one at once. There were a couple of other configuration problems i had during setup but tbh i dont remember too well what they were now.
PCI device passthrough is exclusive. So not concurrent, but what the other comments say works great. I have a Quadro M that could be used to share gpu compute on another platform like ESXi but not passthrough video.
You first need to build the VM with vnc as primary so you can install driver's. I used a ti, and it didn't do squat until I had driver's installed. I use my intel igpu as unraid host video and pass it through, the video never comes back after but it works.
I also have a second GPU but its passed through as well. I'm not sure what is wrong, but it seems like what you're doing should be possible at least. What are you trying to archive with the pass through? And is your motherboard supporting VT-D or the amd equivalent? So I've followed spaceinvader ones video on getting a vbios for tech power up, modifying it, and using that. All went well, passed through the primary gpu from unraid to a vm, did a full windows 10 install and basic setup with the gpu passed through, perfect.
So I installed the new nvidia drivers for my ti, and carried on tinkering. I then decided to reboot the vm so the video drivers could finish installing and it will no longer boot. I don't get error 43 like most others. Windows starts to load, showing the loading icon with the uefi splash screen and then the vm pauses. Now I did have unraid booted in gui mode but I'm assuming that as it passed through for setup, this isn't the problem.
So I'm a little stuck on exactly what would be causing this error as the error says its in use, but this only occurs after installing the nvidia driver.S letter images latest
After so many boots I am able to get into the windows recovery menus which all function fine so it seems to pause the second the drivers initialized. I'm on unraid 6.
The vm is ovmf with Hyper-V off on Q I can post the full xml if it would help. For easy reading, this was the answer needed.
In the event that you get mmap errors on passing through the rom, or you install the nvidia drivers and get errors like the above, try running the following in command line and try again. I added these to a user script that triggers on first array boot up. I have now successfully remove a gpu i no longer need from my system and am able to reboot unraid and have the vm auto start on the primary gpu.
You could try dumping your actual bios instead of a modified one? Just to see if it makes any difference?
Think gridrunner shows it in one of his other videos Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Ok so i tried the above on my main card, and my other card which i currently pass to a VM. Both had been passed through to a vm in a secondary slow at the time. The exported roms both times were a tiny 62KB. Safe to say, booting the vm i get no error saying the device is in use, but the vm has no video output at all.
Having read through the export i noticed my gpu was on an older bios then the one i fetched from techpower so i went and fetched n older version, edited it to remove the jump, and booted the vm. I have video output and the windows startup recovery launched. So i restarted it to boot windows.
Again like before, the windows loading screen comes up, and the seconds windows starts to initialise the nvidia drivers, i get the same error. My next thought is that its because i'm booting unraid into gui mode and thats using something perhaps?
Ok so i just did a fresh reboot with unraid in console mode and still, the exact same behaviour. I'm going to run some tests and have added it into my user scripts to run on array start up to see if that is fine on a fresh restart. It may be something unsupported on the Web terminal, try it from an actual ssh connection, echo should always be available.Six sigma certification meaning
For mine I ssh'd in as the root user same details as the guiyou may find the Web terminal user may be different to root. Hmm, I'm not entirely sure then. I followed a fix someone else found so I don't really know how they found what to do.
I am not sure if I needed to restart the server, or have the array stopped, but one of those let me run two of the 3 commands:. Thank you for the debugging steps and suggestions!
I then set it to run "At first array start only" and just reboot. It will then run that command automatically when the array starts which occurs prior to any VM's being booted so happens early enough to cause no issues.Post a comment.
As noted, there's a ton of threads on unRaid forums covering this, many successfully resolved. Do conduct a search there. For example, searching ' problem with gpu passthrough ' today produces 40 pages of results. Chances are, your issue has been raised and resolved several times before. Another oft-posted remark is something along the lines of ' I followed spaceinvaderone's video, and it still doesn't work'.
In most cases where I've seen this, the user has incorrectly followed the video - missing a key step or subtle point. This is NOT a straightforward process. There are many variables involved and SpaceInvaderOne's videos are packed with information.
He does an amazing job of explaining the complex process step by step, so make sure to rewatch these videos several times to ensure you haven't missed anything. If you haven't been following one of his videos for GPU pas-through, why not?
Get very familiar with the process and follow along before posting queries. For pass-through of any device to work, you need to ensure your system is separating the pass-through devices into discrete IOMMU groups. Here's a section of mine. Observe here how various devices are 'grouped'. If you are passing through hardware to a VM, all devices in a group must be passed through, or it wont work. Have a look at group I have all these devices passed through to a Windows 10 VM that looks after the management of this whole house audio system.
It would not be possible for me to pass through just one of these cards by itself, or have the two cards passed to different VMs.
Look at Group This is one of the GPUs in the system. See that the two parts of the device, video and audio, are listed here, but there's nothing else in the group. If, however, you were to see other devices in this group, you'd need to either pass through all the devices, or work on getting the groups to redefine themselves. Sometimes it's OK to pass through all devices, as in my example above, but if the GPU was bundled with, say, your on-board ethernet, or a USB controller that you're using for your boot thumbdrive, you'll need to get them separated.
How you go about this, and whether you can achieve it at all, will be dependant on your hardware, most importably your motherboard. You need to ensure this is enabled. To figure out how to do it for your motherboard, consult the user manual, manufacturer support site, forums or other reliable internet resources, including unRaid forums.
Again, whether and how this works will be dependent on your own setup and hardware, but you can cycle through the options here, reboot and see if there are any changes. You can also toggle unsafe interrupts on and off in conjunction with each override setting to see if that helps in any way. By far, this is the biggest single cause of failure I have encountered.
You cannot change this after VM creation, so to switch, you need to create a new VM altogether. The machine type is less relevant, but I've had good luck solving problems by switching from Q35 to ifx, or vice versa.
These may be overcome with manual editing of the XML file, but it's often easier to just recreate the VM. This is great, but there's a long-standing issue bug? This can cause all kinds of issues so needs to be fixed. You need to access the XML file to resolve this. This is a royal PITA.
